As our homes go through the freeze and thaw cycles, it is important that we take valuable and proactive steps to prevent issues. Due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, the northern hemisphere begins to see the winter-scape come back to life with daffodils blooming, grass greening, and temperatures warming during late March into early April. As exciting as that can be, so many things need to be done to prepare for the warmer season, including spring cleaning, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors tested, and filters changed.
Following is a list of activities I do to prepare for warmer weather:
• Inspect the weather stripping around outside doors to make sure there are no gaps.
• Spray down the AC unit outside, so there is no buildup of dirt on the coils.
• Change out AC filter.
• Inspect it for any holes that animals could get in.
• Check all outside vents for blockage.
• Clean windows allowing the sun light to shine in.
• Clean all refrigeration coils.
• Plan smart landscaping.
Preparing your home or work can help reduce major damage being done and costing you more money. Maintaining things helps them to run more smoothly and efficient. It can cut down on the cost of keeping your house cool. It can also help prevent rodents from gaining access into your home.
Health wise, preparing yourself for warmer weather can help reduce and prevent a heat related illness. And financially, by maintaining upkeep of items, it can help reduce your monthly cost to operate them.
