Refreshing the Community

Category: Uncategorized

Author: Chris Willmon, Plant Operations Director

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Wellington Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Prioritizing First Impressions

For our spring refresh, we prioritize high-traffic areas that residents, families, and guests use most often. These include entryways and community signage.

Maintaining these spaces is especially important. They create lasting first impressions for current and prospective residents.

One recent seasonal project focused on the Memory Care garden. Our team added new plants, decorative rocks, and additional décor to create a more inviting outdoor environment.

The finished space has greatly improved the garden’s appearance and atmosphere. It also gives residents a more engaging place to enjoy.

Staying Ahead of Seasonal Needs

My Plant Operations Assistant and I work closely together. Over the years, we have developed an efficient and organized process. Through detailed planning and accountability, we can stay ahead of seasonal projects and maintenance needs.

One common spring startup challenge involves sprinkler line breaks and irrigation repairs caused by winter weather. To minimize delays and keep systems on schedule, we begin inspections and repairs about one month in advance.

Looking ahead to next season, we plan to add decorative rock along mulch borders throughout the community. This improvement should help reduce pest activity. It will also enhance the overall appearance and durability of our landscaping.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Wellington Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
