December 27, 2024
Each year, I choose a Word of the Year—a meaningful term to guide my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director of The Wellington Senior Living in Liberty, Missouri, the start of a new year is always an opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for what lies ahead. My Word of the Year becomes an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for our residents. Reflecting on 2024, I’m amazed at how much this practice influenced the year in both expected and surprising ways.
In 2024, our Word of the Year was balance. This theme arose from the need to find harmony across every facet of our community. Balancing personal time with work responsibilities, operational focus with communication, and administrative tasks with resident interactions became our shared goal. At The Wellington, we aim to excel in all areas. Maintaining balance helps us focus efforts wisely and achieve plans effectively.
By embracing balance, our leadership team has grown significantly, driving improvements in staff development and resident satisfaction. This intentional focus has fostered a team of dedicated individuals who genuinely enjoy their work and the residents they serve. Striking a balance between work and fun has strengthened our bonds, creating a positive and supportive environment. Many decisions within our community now center on sustaining this balance, and the results are evident. Residents, families, vendors, and even staff from other communities have recognized the happiness and positivity of our team. Knowing that our staff truly loves being part of The Wellington is a testament to the success of our commitment to balance.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are building on the foundation of balance with our new Word of the Year: transformative. This word reflects our dedication to meaningful change. While we have already embraced transformation in many ways, 2025 will be about amplifying these efforts to make The Wellington even more exceptional. Transformative will guide our journey toward innovation, growth, and enhanced experiences for everyone in our community.
As 2025 approaches, I’m reflecting on the lessons of balance and preparing for a new chapter filled with transformation. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
